Mutual Housing develops and manages over 400 units of mutual housing which is a form of resident-controlled apartments in Hartford, Manchester, New Britain, Glastonbury, Simsbury, and Windsor Locks. Residents are members of the board of directors and play an active role in the committees which oversee and direct the organization. Additionally, Mutual Housing provides education, financial counseling and technical assistance to first-time homebuyers.
What We Do
The Mutual Housing Association of Greater Hartford (MHAGH) develops and manages affordable housing in Greater Hartford while engaging residents in leadership and educational opportunities. MHAGH's vision is a community where everyone has access to high-quality affordable housing. Mutual Housing was incorporated in 1988 and is a member of the national NeighborWorks Network. Since its incorporation it has developed eleven properties with 410 apartments. Mutual Housing has raised more than $42 million in grants and equity to complete these projects. Additionally Mutual Housing provides home buyer education and assistance to over 200 households each year.
