What We Do
HRA is a multi-service nonprofit organization. The mission of HRA is to improve the quality of life by: * helping people achieve economic and social potential; * responding to the causes and conditions of poverty; and * building stronger individuals, families and communities in the greater New Britain area. The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 created the foundation and framework for the community action movement in the United States. In New Britain, individuals from diverse backgrounds who were committed to social change and the attainment of economic self-sufficiency for the poor of the city came together and formed their own Community Action Agency. Thus, the Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc. (HRA) was founded in 1964 to help families escape the cycle of poverty.
