Help restore old trolley cars and railroad equipment. Some of our trolleys date back to 1894. We restore cars from any condition to a historically accurate representation of its past. We also do routine maintenance and repair to our public fleet of trolley cars. Most activities are done on Saturdays. Expect to get dirty and have a good time.  This is a good way for engineering majors to get hands-on experience.

Greater New Britain Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Inc. (Pathways/Senderos Center) is seeking volunteers to expand board membership.

The board of directors is the governing body that oversees vision, mission, and internal operations of the organization.

GNBTPP board members are elected to 2 three year terms.

We are currently looking for individuals to help in Freshplace, our onsite fresh food pantry, which provides nutritious food and case management services to individuals and families living in the poorest neighborhoods in Hartford.

We are looking for individuals who are able to come in for their regularly scheduled shift. Volunteers must be 18 or older, able to lift at least 30 pounds and fully vaccinated.

Through our Recovery and Empowerment Center (REC), individuals receive a variety of social, recreational and wellness opportunities. Chrysalis is always looking for volunteers who are willing to share their talents and teach a class to help clients learn how to live a better life in recovery. Classes are scheduled on a weekly basis around the volunteer’s availability. Class subjects may include, but are not limited to, reading comprehension, cooking, health & wellness, sewing, computer literacy, and recovery programming.

Age Qualification: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Volunteers will be supported by a Chrysalis Center staff member during their class.

Time Frame: Classes are scheduled Monday- Friday between the hours of 9-3pm. We ask volunteer to commit to a weekly class schedule to create a stable and empowering experience for participants.

Throughout the year Chrysalis Center hosts a variety of events to assist in raising funds to support our mission. Tasks include, but are not limited to, registration and check out, serving, greeting, and other duties as needed.

Age Qualification: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Time Frame: Events are scheduled throughout the year, typically held on weekday evenings with the occasional weekend event. Volunteer times vary depending on the event and assigned tasks.

Companies and organizations have the opportunity to come together to help the community while team building. Chrysalis Center will work with your group to find the best project fit based for your interests, group size and desired schedule.

Time Frame: Group volunteer days are typically scheduled Monday- Friday between the hours of 8-4pm. Groups will be scheduled though the Volunteer & Outreach Manager based on size, project type and availability. Weekend and evening opportunities are available.

Chrysalis Center has gardens at its main campus, and a two-acre food forest at Cosgrove Commons, our supportive housing site, both located in Hartford. The gardens help clients learn how to harvest and grow their own foods, as well as make them available for Freshplace, the Homestead Farmers’ Market and La Cocina Catering. Volunteers help the gardens thrive by assisting with planting and harvesting produce, as well as general upkeep.  

Age Qualification: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Time Frame: Shifts are scheduled Monday- Friday between the hours of 9-3pm. We ask volunteers to commit to a weekly shift to help maintain a garden schedule throughout the May- October season. Weekend opportunities are also available.

An open-air, Connecticut-grown farmers’ market is open to the public from June through October, located on Chrysalis’ main campus in Hartford. The market offers vegetables and fruits culturally relevant to the community, featuring produce grown on-site in Chrysalis Center’s raised bed gardens, Urban Roots hydroponically grown vegetables, as well as produce from local community farmers. During the markets open hours, volunteers help provide customers with an exceptional shopping experience, and represent Chrysalis Center helping to grow relationships within the community.

Age Qualifications:  Volunteers must be atleast 18 years of age.

Time Frame: The Farmer’s Market is open on Wednesdays June- October. We ask volunteers to commit to a weekly shift to help run a successful weekly market.

Please consider joining us at Westmoor Park for fun, friendship, and community service.  Volunteers are needed from May through October from 9:00am till Noon on Mondays, Wednesdays, and on the first Saturday of each month to plant, weed, water, and harvest our bountiful vegetable garden.  These gardens are a teaching resource for many of the Park's educational programs, where children learn the joy and rewards of gardening. Our garden harvests are donated to a local Soup Kitchen and Sr. Centers to help feed low income area residents.  The annual donations from Plant-a-Row have averaged 2,000 pounds of fresh produce.

Girls on the Run Greater Hartford is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. For 10 weeks, trained GOTR Coaches lead small teams of elementary and middle school girls through life skills lessons that incorporate running and other physical activities.

Teams meet twice a week for 90 minutes during after school hours (2:30 pm onward). As a GOTR Coach, you will be the impetus for transformational change in your girls and you may even experience a positive change within yourself as well!

Girls on the Run coaches do not need to be elite runners. Any person who lives a healthy lifestyle and is committed to improving the lives of girls can serve as a coach. We are currently accepting applications for Head Coaches (Female, 21 and up); Assistant and Substitute Coaches (Male or Female, 18 and up); and Junior Coaches (male or female, 16-18 years old). Apply today!

Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut is always looking for new volunteer tutors to work with our adult students on their English literacy and math skills. Volunteers are required to tutor once a week for 2 hours and commit to work with our organization for 1 year. Training is provided for those interested in becoming a tutor. WAIM is looking for individuals with much life experience to join our mentor corps.  We especially hope that those who are (Spanish) bilingual will apply. We offer training to help orient you to the joys and the challenges of being a mentor.    Our mentors often have had years of professional experience in a broad range of areas.  Many are near or in retirement. You will be matched to a learning partner who has been referred to the program because they wish to realize specific, self-determined goals.  These goals may range from finding employment, returning to school, learning to budget or making healthier lifestyle choices, for example. This is a sustained relationship that we recommend maintaining for at least 6 months to a year though many relationships continue for much longer as the partners see fit.

Our A Hand Up Program helps those that are moving out of homelessness in the Greater Hartford area with donated furniture and household goods. 

Volunteers help to pickup and distribute furniture to provide to clients who have recently moved out of homelessness into empty apartments.

We have a warehouse in West Hartford that we typically will meet at to start the day and then caravan out to each location. 

We operate 7 days a week, when we have the volunteers to do so, and hope you will be able to join our volunteer team on the occasional week day or weekend when you are able to jump in! 

Lead small groups of up to 10 students in grades K-8 in various activities including arts and crafts, science, and math, music, inside and outside games, sports, dance, homework, yoga, theater, technology, fitness activities, cheerleading, electronics, science, and other enrichment programs.

Under direct supervision of the Before & After School Center Administrator, Team Leaders are responsible for ensuring students are actively engaged in learning activities, maintaining a safe environment, and monitoring student behavior according to ERfC’s discipline procedures.

Facilitate visitor engagement, connecting visitors to CTM’s collections and encouraging visitors to explore & discover. Provide formal and informal interactive learning opportunities that create meaning and relevance to audiences of all ages. Adhere to CTM policies and procedures while facilitating a safe, positive, and engaging experience for museum visitors during regular visitation, public programming, and private events

Learn how to run a historic trolley car or simply be a conductor. Give rides to our visitors. Learn about the history of the trolley era and give short talks to our visitors. People of all ages and skills are needed on weekdays and weekends during the summer, weekends in the spring and fall, weekend nights during December. This position has a lot of interaction with the public.

Training classes start in the spring.

Requirements:

A clean driving record. High school graduation preferred. Museum membership is required. We provide training classes and hands on experience. Minimum age of 18 for regular motormen.  We also have a Junior Motorman program starting at age 16.

Time commitment:

Two 8 hour days per month, weekdays or weekends.

CLCC seeks program assistants for our Arts in the Afternoon program serving adults with developmental disabilities. The program typically runs for 2-3 hours on Tuesday afternoons and the location varies based on the current CoVID-19 pandemic. 

Program assistants ensure that each participant is actively engaged in the Arts Program and aides the Operations Manager in the daily functions including set-up, take-down and assisting participants.
