Chrysalis Center is a private, non-profit, socially innovative, multiservice organization that serves individuals and their families living in the State of Connecticut. What We Do
Chrysalis Center’s mission is to provide supportive services to assist people in need to transform their lives.
When Chrysalis Center opened in 1975, the agency provided support services to adults living in poverty who struggled with mental illness to help them live as independently as possible in the community. Over the years, we’ve grown and changed to meet the community’s changing needs. Starting as a social club for individuals discharged from a psychiatric hospital and returned to Hartford, Chrysalis Center now provides best practice service models, that are nationally accredited and outcome oriented.
As one of the first organizations in the state to embrace supportive housing, Chrysalis Center collaborates with the CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), CT Department of Social Services (DSS), and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), as well as foundations, corporate supporters, and private donors to expand its supportive housing mission. We currently own and operate nine housing sites throughout Greater Hartford and provide case management services to thousands of individuals scattered throughout the state.
Today, we also help low-income people dealing with substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, release from incarceration and homelessness. Our services have grown beyond community support services and case management to include community employment services, community supportive housing, recovery services, affordable housing development and community connections.
We believe that each person, regardless of their illness, disability or life circumstance, has strengths, skills and experiences to build on. We work to offer quality services that respect the dignity of each person and their cultural background. We offer hope and guidance as individuals make choices to rebuild their lives.
The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International recently named Chrysalis Center’s programs in the top 3% of all health and human service nonprofits in the nation and internationally due to the outstanding care and cutting-edge services we provide.
