Who We Are

Community Mental Health Affiliates, Inc. is a regional community based behavioral health care provider dedicated to improving the quality of life for adults, adolescents, and children with mental illness living in Central Connecticut.

CMHA offers a continuum of services dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with mental illness and substance abuse in Connecticut. CMHA is headquartered in New Britain, with 11 locations in 3 cities throughout northwest and central Connecticut. We provide treatment for 6,000+ children, adolescents and adults each year.

What We Do

Founded in 1975, CMHA is a not-for-profit, multi-service, community-oriented behavioral health organization. CMHA's goal is to develop and maintain an accessible mental health and addictions delivery system that meets the essential needs of people consistent with their goals for change and recovery. CMHA's commitment to high quality services and strong ties to the community have enabled us to develop highly responsive programs. This has led to continued improvements in service delivery to clients and enhanced our capabilities to provide multiple levels of care in our outpatient continuum.

CMHA is accredited by the Joint Commission. Seeking and obtaining this voluntary accreditation, with its rigorous requirements, is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to meeting and exceeding national standards for client care and quality improvement.

In 2007, CMHA merged with Family Services of Central Connecticut, the Substance Abuse Action Council, and the Northwest Center for Family Service and Mental Health. This merger allowed the agency to expand its services and locations and offer an even more complete continuum of care for residents across the state. CMHA now has 13 locations in 3 cities and towns throughout Connecticut.

CMHA has an annual budget of nearly $24 million. The agency employs more than 350 employees.
